The LG Optimus 3D Max is the brand's second handset to feature a glasses-free 3D screen, but this time it packs the brand new 3D Games Convertor
LG Optimus 3D Max: Build
Measuing 9.6mm deep, the LG Optimus 3D Max is slimmer than it's predecessor, but otherwise the aesthetics haven't evolved that much, althogh the design of the dual lens does look a little slicker and flatter.LG Optimus 3D Max: Features
The main advantage that the new handset has over the the first-gen LG Optimus 3D is the inclusion of the 3D Game Convertor. As the name suggests, this enables you to convert any 2D games to three dimensions. The demo we saw was certainly impressive, especially when plugged into a 3DTV, via HDMI.No doubt some games will look better in 3D than others, but it's a nifty feature to have on board and we look forward to trying it out with more games.
A handy little 3D logo pops up on corner of any converted game's shortcut icon on the phone's homescreen so it's easy to tell at a glance which of your games are ready to play in the third dimension.
The LG Optimus 3D Max features two rear-mounted 5MP for capturing images in 3D, and there's also a standard VGA 1.3MP on the front. The camera appeared to struggle slightly in the dimly lit demo area of LG's stand at MWC, but then that's hardly unsual for the camera on a phone (although we hope that the Nokia 808 PureView make buck the trend with it's 41MP camera).
LG Optimus 3D Max: Screen
The 4.3-inch autostereoscopic (glasses-free) LCD screen is the main draw here and according to the maker, it sports improved depth of field compared to the LG Optimus 3D and this can also be customised to suit your vision. The 3D effect looks good, although as with most 3D tech, it's down to personal preference as to whether you find in comfortable to view for more than a couple of minutes at a time...
LG Optimus 3D Max: Performance
Slightly disappointingly, the new handset comes with Android 2.3 on board, rather than the newer Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, although no doubt there'll be a update on the way soon enough. The Optimus 3D Max is powered by a 1.2Ghz dual-core processor and features 16GB of built-in storage, giving it a relatively standard spec lineup.LG Optimus 3D Max: Battery
LG Optimus 3D Max: Verdict
The LG Optimus 3D Max looks like a definitely improvement on its predecessor. One of the biggest complaints about the LG Optimus 3D was that it was too bulky, so LG has taken this on board and given the new handset a noticeably slimmer profile. The inclusion of the 3D Game Convertor is also a big draw, and we look forward to trying it out in more detail. Stay tuned for a full review.LG Optimus 3D Max availability: TBC
