BlackBerry PlayBook owners, buoyed by the release of new software are brought back down to earth with news that Netflix is blackballing RIM devices.
Transatlantic streaming giant Netflix says it has no plans to launch a mobile app for RIM's portfolio of smartphones and tablets.
Answering a tweet from a frustrated BlackBerry PlayBook user, a Netflix spokesman said: "We don’t have any current plans to support Blackberry devices, including Playbook," which roughly-translated means 'get an Android or iPad tablet, idiot'
Netflix' stance compounds the misery for BlackBerry PlayBook owners, who've only recently been graced with the fully functioning PlayBook 2.0 OS, and now they'll probably never be able to access the massive library of on-demand TV and Movies through their 7-inch tablet. One step forward, two-steps back.
It's the same story owners of Bold, Curve and Torch owners, although perhaps RIM's plans to revolutionise the OS with BlackBerry 10 will change that story.
RIM has endured severe problems in attempting to entice app developers to fill its barren BlackBerry App World, even offering free PlayBooks to anyone who submits an app for the much-maligned tablet.
If the company is no-long able to ensnare even the most mainstream and popular companies to put the effort into launching an app for its smartphones and tablets then RIM really is doomed.
