Windows Phone App News: Skype Beta finally arrives

0

It's been a long time coming but Microsoft has finally launched Skype for Windows Phone. It's probably the best looking Skype app yet and the best is yet to come
After a seemingly illogical wait, Microsoft has launched the Skype client for Windows Phone devices, bringing an attractive Metro-based app with an innovative new feel and video calling over 3G and Wi-Fi.
The Beta launch arrives almost ten months after Microsoft purchased the company for a whopping $8.5bn and will come as a huge boost to expectant Windows Phone owners, and those waiting for the right time to jump on board.

The app is slightly different to the iOS and Android offerings it's designed around Microsoft's Metro user interface. There's much-improved profile pages for your contacts and also a handy Jump List to easily find the contact you're looking for.
Skype for Windows Phone also supports video calling over 3G, Wi-Fi and 4G, while you'll also be able to continue text chatting thanks to pop-up notifications during the call.
The app will launch in full in April, but the Beta verison offers a better experience on certain Nokia Lumia (610 and 800), HTC (Titan and Radar) and Samsung smarthphones (Focus).
